KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team is set for two matches ahead, traveling to Notre Dame, Ind. on Friday, Jan. 18 to face the University of Notre Dame prior to hosting the University of DePaul on Sunday, Jan. 20 at West Hills Athletic Club.Â

Jeryn Jack took their matches, coming from behind to win in the tie-breaker. WMU then took five out of six singles matches to secure the victory. Tjon-A-Joe looked very comfortable in her first match in the Brown and Gold, defeating Dasha Artamonova from Oakland, 7-6, 6-2. Tiraspolsky, a fellow rookie, took home a three set victory for the Broncos for her first collegiate win as well. Seniors Azcui and Fevralev also took care of business against the Golden Grizzles, moving to 1-0 on the season in singles play.
Scouting Notre Dame
Friday's match will mark the first dual-match and spring season opener for the Fighting Irish. Two Notre Dame doubles pairs were featured in the ITA Top 60 National Doubles Rankings, with Ally Bojczuk & Bess Waldram coming in at No. 29, followed by the duo of Cameron Corse and Zoe Spence ranked at No. 44. Last season, Notre Dame went 11-15 overall and 2-12 during ACC competition.Â
Scouting DePaul
The Blue Demons are scheduled to open their 2019 schedule versus Purdue on Saturday prior to heading to Kalamazoo. Throughout several fall tournaments, DePaul went 20-34 in singles play and 11-14 during doubles. The three-time Big East Conference champions fell short in the conference title match last season, finishing with a 10-11 overall record.Â
