KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's soccer team defeated the University of Illinois at Chicago 3-0 Friday, Sept. 7 at WMU Soccer Complex to notch its third consecutive shutout victory.Â
The shutout win streak matches a streak set at a similar time last season. The Broncos (5-1) now have won four-straight and have held their opponents scoreless four times.Â
Bailey Korhorn's team-leading fourth goal of the season, just under two minutes of the game, stood as the eventual game-winner as the Bronco defense was steady along with a solid performance from goalkeeper
Hannah Sargent. The two combined for the game-winning goal as Sargent picked up the assist, booting one past the UIC back line as Korhorn raced ahead and went in all alone for the goal.Â
Western Michigan took the one-goal lead into the break, owning a 10-4 shot advantage.Â
The Broncos added two more tallies in the second half to help seal the win. At the 53rd minute mark,
Grace Labadie led
Hannah Kahn with a great pass, setting her up for her third goal of the season as she finished inside the box. With 20 minutes remaining,
Morgan Otteson pounced on a loose ball inside the box to collect her first collegiate goal.Â
G. Labadie led WMU with a season-high seven shots and a career-best four on goal, while Sargent notched a season-high fives saves while recording her third-straight and fourth shutout of the year.Â
Up next, the Broncos head to West Lafayette, Ind. on Sunday, Sept. 9 to face a Big Ten opponent in Purdue University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
