KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team concluded its preseason on Friday with a match-up against Hillsdale College.
The Broncos defeated the Chargers in four sets (25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23) inside University Arena. Every player on the team saw time on the court for the Brown & Gold.
Hillsdale College went into the exhibition contest as the preseason favorite to win the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) as voted on by the leagues' coaches. Hillsdale College won the G-MAC Tournament last season and finished the year with an overall record of 28-4.
In the fourth and final set, the Broncos and Chargers were tied at 21-21 before WMU rattled off three straight points to take a 24-21 lead. Hillsdale rallied with back-to-back points before junior
Willow Martin earned a kill to end the match.
WMU begins the season at the UMKC Tournament in Kansas City, Mo, Aug. 24-25. The Broncos kick-off the season on Friday, Aug. 24 at 11:30 a.m. against NCAA Tournament participant Austin Peay. The Brown & Gold conclude the tournament on Saturday, Aug. 25 against UMKC and South Dakota State.
The Broncos home opener is set for Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 7:00 p.m. against Chicago State.
