ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling at the University of Michigan, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.
WMU battled the Wolverines to a 0-0 score-line through the first half, with sophomore Hannah Sargent making all of her career-high four saves in the first 45 minutes. The Broncos were outshot 14-7 on the day, with Colleen McKay and Hannah Kahn each leading the Broncos with two.
Nicki Hernandez netted Michigan's first goal of the game in the 57th minute on a shot from six-yards out into the bottom left corner. Meredith Haakenson tallied the assist on the game-winner.
U of M doubled the lead in the 70th minute on a goal by Sarah Stratigakis from 11-yards out. Hernandez picked up the assist.
Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo and the WMU Soccer Complex for a pair of games. On Thursday the team hosts Purdue Fort Wayne at 5 p.m. and then hosts Wright State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
