CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced on Monday that
Jesse Forestell,
Andrew Reisinger,
Andrew Stone and
Jack Szott of Western Michigan baseball have been named Distinguished Scholar Athletes.
With four honorees, WMU is tied with Toledo, Kent State, Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green for most in the league. Overall, 23 baseball student-athletes earned Distinguished Scholar Athlete recognition. Â
The Distinguished Scholar Athlete is a third-year award given to students who have excelled in athletics and academics. From the Academic All-MAC teams, the faculty athletics representatives selected the 'best of the best' of our Academic All-MAC teams to be honored with Distinguished Scholar Athlete award.
For the second year in a row, RHP
Jack Szott earned Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors, posting a 3.93 grade point average in accounting. The Naperville, Ill., native made 12 appearances on the mound with seven starts in 2018. Szott recorded 19 strikeouts and allowed just 18 earned runs in 28.1 innings of work.
RHP
Andrew Reisinger posted a 3.79 GPA in management and ranked first in the MAC with 29 appearances on the mound. His 29 appearances were the fourth most in a single-season in school history as Reisinger went 8-1 with a 4.33 ERA.
Andrew Stone earns MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors after registering a 3.73 GPA in Sports Management. The Portage, Mich., native played in 46 games for the Broncos this past season and recorded a .410 on-base percentage with 28 runs scored, one double and 13 RBIs. Stone ranked third in the MAC in sacrifice bunts and 56
th in the NCAA.
Recording a 3.74 GPA in Marketing, catcher
Jesse Forestell was named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete. Forestell was one of two players to start in all 48 games for WMU and overall has played or started in 101 straight games. On the season Forestell registered a .236 batting average with seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 26 RBIs.
