KALAMAZOO, Mich. – On Thursday the Mid-American Conference announced its Academic All-MAC team with eight Western Michigan baseball student-athletes earning the honor.
It's the fourth year in a row that WMU has placed at least five on the Academic All-MAC team with the eight honorees being the most since 2015.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Jesse Forestell, Junior, 3.74, Marketing
Was one of two players to play and start in all 48 games and hit .236 with seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 26 RBIs. Forestell threw out 16 runners attempting to steal which ranked fourth in the MAC.
Ethan Hajdukovic, Sophomore, 3.78, Accounting
Had a .271 slugging and .219 on-base percentage in 29 games played with two doubles, one home run and nine RBIs. Defensively, Hajdukovic had a .985 fielding percentage which ranked third on the team.
Logan Hudson, Redshirt Freshman, 3.77, Accounting
Ranked second on the team with a .333 batting average in 22 games played. Hudson recorded four doubles, two triples and six RBIs while scoring 12 runs. Hudson had a team-high .483 on-base percentage to go along with a .511 slugging percentage.
Chris Modrzynski, Junior, 3.28, Speech Pathology / Audiology
Modrzynski made 19 appearances on the mound including 10 starts in 47.0 innings of work. Modrzynski had an overall record of 3-4 and a 6.51 ERA. In his 10 starts, Modrzynski recorded at least three strikeouts six times.
Andrew Reisinger, Redshirt Senior, 3.79, Management
Reisinger compiled an overall record of 8-1 with a 4.33 ERA in 29 appearances. Reisinger's eight victories ranked second in the MAC while his 29 appearances ranked 48
th in the NCAA. In 52.0 innings, opponents hit just .275 against Reisinger.
Andrew Stone, Redshirt Junior, 3.73, Sports Management
Stone hit .294 with 28 runs scored and 13 RBIs in 46 games played. Stone registered a .301 slugging percentage and a .410 on-base percentage while ranking 56
th in the NCAA in sacrifice bunts. Stone ranked second on the team with 29 walks.
Jack Szott, Redshirt Sophomore, 3.93, Accounting
Szott made 12 appearances on the mound including seven starts. Szott totaled 28.1 innings, allowing just 18 earned runs on 42 hits and striking out 19. Szott had at least two strikeouts in five of the 12 appearances.
Tyler Thorington, Sophomore, 3.76, Business
Thorington made 11 appearances with one start for the Broncos in 2018. Thorington totaled 8.2 innings, allowing 11 earned runs on 14 hits with nine strikeouts. The RHP earned at least one strikeout in five of his last six appearances.
