AKRON, Ohio- The No. 5 seeded Western Michigan softball team was eliminated from the 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 5-2 loss against No. 3 seed Toledo Friday. The Broncos finish the season with an overall record of 29-25.
The Broncos twice held one-run leads in the game, but Toledo was able to answer each time WMU scored.
Brooke Wyman hit a one-out single in the top of the first and scored on a two-out single by
Aspen Williams to put WMU in front, 1-0. Toledo tied the game with a solo home run from freshman Bailey Curry in the bottom half of the inning.
Western Michigan's
Skyler Sobeski was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the fourth and scored following singles by Williams and
Sydney Stefanick (RBI). Toledo fired back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a three-run home run by junior Megan Choate.
Toledo only had three hits in the game, but made use of six walks.
WMU junior pitcher
Jordan Kurth (12-8) took the loss, going 3.2 innings, allowing two hits, four walks and four runs.
Western Michigan had seven hits in the contest and left eight runners on base.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Swinehart tripled in the fifth inning, giving her a team-high 67 hits on the season. The 67 hits ties her mother, Wendy (Berryman) Swinehart for third most in a WMU single-season. Wendy had 67 hits in 1994.
Friday's loss was the final game for WMU seniors
