Box Score KENT, Ohio- The Western Michigan softball team fell in both games of Saturday's Mid-American Conference doubleheader at Kent State. The Broncos dropped an 8-7 decision in nine innings in game one and lost 1-0 in game two.
Western Michigan (13-13, 0-2 MAC record) and Kent State (14-9, 2-0 MAC) face off tomorrow in game three of this weekend's MAC opening series at 1 p.m.
The Broncos held a 7-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth in game one, but couldn't hold off a late Kent State rally. The Golden Flashes scored four runs in the sixth and tied the game with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. KSU scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, using a single, an intentional walk and a Bronco error to plate the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Junior shortstop
Brooke Wyman hit a pair of doubles and drove in three for the Broncos. Redshirt senior first baseman
Marlee Wilson drove in two and had two hits, including a solo home run in the fourth.
Junior pitcher
Jordan Kurth started the game and threw 5.2 innings. She struck out three and gave up nine hits and six runs. Senior
Holly VanTilburg took the loss, tossing the final 2.2 innings, surrendering the final two runs.
Both teams were limited offensively in game two, with Western Michigan collecting just three hits and Kent State totaling four. A leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth was the difference maker in the game. KSU used a sacrifice bunt and scored the game's only run on a double to pull out the 1-0 victory.
Senior
Anissa Sanchez gave a valiant effort in the loss, throwing a complete game and striking out four.
