KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team fell to Minnesota-Duluth for the second-straight night, losing on Saturday 6-1.
UMD scored two goals in the first 3:07 of the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Riley Tufte added a power play goal with 1:33 left in the first period to push the lead to 3-0.
WMU cut the lead to 3-1 with its lone goal of the weekend at 11:09 in the second period. Cam Lee fired a shot through traffic on a power play and it got past Hunter Shepard. The goal was Lee's sixth of the season with Paul Stoykewych and Scott Moldenhauer picking up assists.
Billy Exell netted his second goal of the night to give the Bulldgos a 4-1 lead, while Peter Krieger and Jared Thomas added goals in the third period.
Western Michigan travels to Colorado College next Friday and Saturday to close out the regular season. Friday's game starts at 9:37 p.m. ET, while Saturday's starts at 8:07 p.m. Both games can be seen live on NCHC.tv.
