COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Western Michigan hockey team has landed 16 student-athletes on the National Collegiate Hockey Conference All-Academic Team and five have earned NCHC Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors.

Wade Allison (3.16), Luke Bafia (3.21), Kale Bennett (3.97), Ben Blacker (3.24), Colt Conrad (3.27), Dawson DiPietro (3.45), Neal Goff (3.49), Trevor Gorsuch (3.62), Cam Lee (3.11), Will Massey (3.71), Hugh McGing (3.71), Jade McMullen (3.41), Scott Moldenhauer (3.88), Aidan Muir (3.76), Corey Schueneman (3.49), and Paul Stoykewych (3.59) earned NCHC All- Academic Team honors. Bennett, Gorsuch, Massey, McGing, Moldenhauer, Muir and Stoykewych all earned the NCHC Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors, as well.

To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average or better while having completed at least one academic year at his current institution. Student-athletes that have accrued a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better are honored as NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes (previously called the Scholar-Athlete Team), in addition to Academic All-Conference. The 38 Distinguished Scholar-Athletes are only one fewer than last year's Scholar-Athlete Team and the second-most recipients since the NCHC switched to its current criteria for the Distinguished Scholar-Athletes/Scholar-Athlete Team in 2015-16.

All 16 of WMU's selections are repeats from last season, while Bennett, Gorsuch, Massey, McGing, Modlenhauer, Muir and Stoykewych also repeated as Distinguished Scholar Athletes. The Broncos had the third-most overall selections in the NCHC, behind Omaha (20) and Colorado College (17).

WMU's freshmen will be eligible to be retroactively added to the list once the spring semester is complete. Last season Western Michigan's entire freshmen class ended up earning All-Academic Team honors.

No. 15 Western Michigan returns to Lawson Ice Arena this weekend to host No. 2/3 St. Cloud State this Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets to the top-ranked clash can be purchased by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and online at wmubroncos.com.
