Three-Point Barrage Carries WMU to Win Over K-College

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – It was a three-point barrage for Western Michigan men's basketball in its second exhibition game, knocking down 17 three-pointers to defeat Kalamazoo College, 110-70 on Saturday afternoon inside University Arena.

The Broncos shot a staggering 56.7 percent from long distance going 17-for-30. WMU had just five threes' in the first half before exploding for 12 threes', shooting 63 percent the final 20 minutes of play. As a team, WMU shot 59 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free-throw line.

Overall the Brown & Gold had four players score in double figures with senior Seth Dugan leading the way with 23 points and seven rebounds. Dugan was efficient from the floor going 10-of-12 and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. The Otsego, Mich., native scored 12 of his game-high 23 in the second half.

Behind Dugan was freshman William Boyer-Richard with 20 points, going 6-of-7 from three-point range. Boyer-Richard also collected a team-high four assists to go along with two rebounds in 15 minutes played.

Senior Josh Davis made an impact in many ways on the game scoring 14 points with five rebounds and four assists. Rounding out the double digit scoring was sophomore Michael Flowers with 10 points and a team-high seven assists.

The Bronco defense played a key part in the victory forcing Kalamazoo College to commit 21 turnovers. The Hornets shot 50 percent from the field for the game but was stifled in the second half shooting just 38.5 percent.

Kalamazoo College battled in the first half trailing by just 10 at halftime thanks in large part to hot shooting from the field. The Hornets shot 62.5 percent from the field and force WMU to commit nine turnovers.

Midway through the first half WMU jumped out to a double digit lead after junior Jared Printy scored five straight points to give the Brown & Gold a 34-17 lead with eight minutes remaining. Printy ignited the Bronco offense as WMU made its next six field goals. Kalamazoo College cut the lead to single digits late in the half as the Hornets made five straight field goals to trail 47-37 into halftime.

WMU once again had a strong second half outscoring Kalamazoo College, 63-33. After trading baskets to begin the half the Broncos embarked on a 13-0 run to extend its lead back to double digits. Ultimately the Broncos went on a 23-3 run to take a 77-45
lead with 11 minutes remaining.

With two minutes remaining, freshman Luke Toliver knocked down a three from the right wing to give WMU its 100th point, extending its lead to 102-68. The Broncos secured a 110-70 victory after making six of its final eight field goals.
