BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's soccer team's season came to an end on Friday evening after falling to Ball State, 1-0, in double-overtime in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinal at Bowling Green State University.
The game-winner came at 104:39 after a Bronco deflected a cross by Lauren Roll into the net.
It was a back-and forth game with BSU outshooting WMU 16-12. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Hannah Sargent made 10 saves in the loss. The Cardinals had five shots on goal in the first half, carrying possession for times but the Broncos fought back in the second half to control the game. Western Michigan had four of its six corner kicks in the second 45 minutes but were unable to capitalize.
Junior midfielder Grace Labadie had a game-high five shots, landing one on goal. Morgan Otteson had a team-high two shots on goal, including a great chance early in the second half and then again in the first overtime period. Senior midfielder Colleen McKay played a key part in bossing the midfield, breaking up many potential attacks by the Cardinals and quickly shifting play to the other end.
WMU wraps up its season with a 14-7-0 record, including going 7-3-0 in conference play. It was the fourth time in the program's 23-year history the team reached 14 wins and head coach Sarah Stanczyk set a record for most wins by a first-year head coach.
