KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan volleyball ended its season on a three-match winning streak after defeating rival Central Michigan in four sets (25-22, 25-23, 29-31, 25-16) on Friday night inside University Arena.
The Broncos end the season with an overall record of 16-14 and 6-10 in Mid-American Conference play. The victory also gave WMU the season sweep over CMU for the first time since 2014.
On senior night, senior setter
Mary Murphy ended her career with a double-double posting 50 assists and 11 digs. It's the fourth double-double of the season for Murphy and first with at least 50 assists. The Wilmington, Ill., native ends her career as WMU's all-time career assists leader with 4,500 assists and ranks eighth in program history with 10.14 assists per set.
It's the fourth time this season Murphy has had at least 50 assists in a match and the second time in the last four matches.

Rachel Bontrager who was tied for the team lead with 14 kills and 11 digs. It's the second straight match Bontrager has recorded a double-double and on the weekend has 26 kills and 26 digs.
Tied for the team lead in kills was freshman Sammi Labolle with 14 to go along with a staggering .500 attack percentage on 24 attempts. Labolle also registered four digs and four blocks in the four-set victory. Junior
Kathleen Reilly led the Broncos with 28 digs and had a total of 51 over the weekend.
At the net the Broncos were dominant with 11 blocks as Bontrager along with redshirt freshman
Janell Williams each had five. As a team the Brown & Gold had a .296 attack percentage and held the Chippewas to just a .193 attack percentage.
First Set (WMU – 25, CMU – 22)
It was a tight first set as neither team led by more than three early on before the Broncos pulled ahead 16-15 after a service ace by sophomore
Kaley Smith. WMU ultimately embarked on a 3-0 run to take a 19-16 lead before the Chippewas battled back with a 3-0 run of their own. WMU regained the lead with another 3-0 run to hold a 22-19 advantage. The Broncos scored three of the next six points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Second Set (WMU – 25, CMU – 23)
It was a hot start for the Broncos in the second set jumping out to an early 8-2 lead. However, Central Michigan clawed its way back to tie the match at 17-17 after a winning 15 of the next 24 points. That was the closes the Chippewas got in the set as WMU never trailed en route to the 25-23 set victory.
Third Set (WMU – 29, CMU – 31)
Late in the third set the Broncos were one point away from sweeping the Chippewas for the second time this season after leading 24-20. CMU embarked on a 4-0 run to stave off the sweep and tie the match at 24-24. The two teams traded points until the Broncos and Chippewas were once again tied at 29-29. A WMU serve error followed by a CMU kill helped the Chippewas earn the 31-29 third set win.
Fourth Set (WMU – 25, CMU – 16)
In the fourth and final set it was all Western Michigan as the Broncos never trailed to win the fourth set and end the match. WMU used a 4-0 run highlighted by back-to-back blocks along with a service ace by Murphy to take a 12-5 lead. Down the stretch, WMU embarked on a 5-1 run with two kills coming from Labolle to take a 21-13 lead. CMU scored just three more points before an attack error on the final point gave WMU its third straight victory and a season sweep of the Chippewas.
