"I couldn't be happier, I loved our fight and our determination today," commented WMU head coach Shane Clipfell. "The team did exactly what we wanted them to do and they battled through some tough spots especially in the third quarter. I think the biggest key tonight was that when we were struggling offensively, we performed exceptionally well on defense."

Junior guard Deja Wimby led the Broncos with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals after tying a career-high 38 minutes played. Junior teammate Breanna Mobley continued her strong play this season with her seventh double-double of the season off 12 points and 11 rebounds along with two blocks. Redshirt senior Marley Hill was the final Bronco in double figures with 15 points as well as tallying a career-high six blocks.

Redshirt junior Jasmyn Walker was just one-point shy of recording her first double-double in a Bronco uniform. The Valparaiso transfer scored nine points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. Her sister, freshman Jordan Walker, added six points, five rebounds and two assists for WMU. Following the night, the Bronco starters scored a combined 59 of the team's 66 total points.

Western Michigan jumped out of the gates early with a 10-2 lead through the first seven minutes. During that stretch the Broncos shot 5-for-8 while holding the Golden Flashes to just 1-of-9 as WMU took an eight-point lead after the first 10 minutes.

Kent State came out in the second quarter with back-to-back baskets to cut the lead in half. However, Junior Meredith Miller lifted the Broncos with a pair of threes in the quarter to help WMU take a six-point lead into the locker room.

After the Broncos led by as many as 11 in the third, Kent State clawed its way back to pull within two before the final stanza. Mobley had seven of her 12 points in the quarter to lead the Brown and Gold. The Broncos would ride a 9-0 run to begin the fourth, highlighted by Wimby's five consecutive points, to help seal the conference road win.

The Brown and Gold were monsters on the glass and in the paint today, outrebounding the Golden Flashes 40-27 and scoring 38 points in the paint. As a team, WMU shot 47.2 percent from the floor including a 60 percent fourth quarter. Defensively, Western Michigan forced 14 turnovers that lead to 14 points off turnovers. The nine blocks from the Brown and Gold is also a season-high for the team.

Kent State was led by Jordan Korinek who scored the game-high 22 points while the Golden Flashes fall to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the MAC.

Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo for a two-game home stand next week. The Broncos welcome Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Jan. 10 for a 7:00 p.m. tip before hosting Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 13. Saturday's contest is also "Daddy/Daughter Day" and a doubleheader with the men's team. CLICK HERE to order your tickets now or call 1-800-4-WMU-TIX.
