BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team saw its shutout and win streak snapped after a 2-0 loss at Buffalo to open Mid-American Conference play on Friday night.
WMU (5-3, 0-1 MAC) outshot the Bulls 17-12 overall but UB was able to take advantage of its five shots on goal on the night while keeping the Broncos off the scoreboard after four saves by Laura Dougall.
Buffalo took a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute on a goal by Carissima Curtona, snapping Western Michigan's shutout streak at 327 minutes. Rachel Villata played a through-ball into the box for Curtona and she beat WMU keeper Stephanie Heber in the left corner for her fourth goal of the season.
The Bulls put the game away in the 87th minute on Julia Benati's third goal of the season. Gianna Yurchak crossed the ball into the box and Benati chipped it into the net to push the lead to 2-0.
Emma Kahn, Grace Labadie, Colleen McKay and Alyssa Smith all had shots on goal on the night, while Kahn and McKay each had three total shots to pace the Broncos.
WMU now heads to Akron on Sunday to take on the Zips at 3 p.m.
