"Twenty walks issued (between both teams) speaks a bit to the rainy conditions," head coach Billy Gernon said. "Unfortunately we doubled their total and they were able to capitalize on the free bases our our staff issued. We can hit with anyone, but it's tough when you don't give your offense a chance. It's imperative that we are ready to go tomorrow with great energy and a high level of expectation to execute the game."

The game was even at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the second, as the Chippewas struck first with a run in the bottom of the first and the Broncos responded with a run in the top of the second. In the second, Alex Goodwin had a one-out triple to right field and came in to score on Tyler Frank's RBI single to left field.

The bottom of the second inning was huge for CMU, as the Chippewas scored five runs without a hit, but drew six walks in the inning to make it a 6-1 lead.

The Broncos made it 6-2 in the top of the fourth inning, scoring a run on a Jesse Forestell RBI double that plated Grant Miller, who drew a one-out walk earlier in the inning. CMU added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, pushing its lead to 9-2.

The Brown & Gold responded with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, making it a five-run CMU lead. Miller started it with a one-out double down the left field line and Forestell drew a walk to follow the double. Goodwin delivered an RBI double to left center and Forestell came in to score on a dropped throw at first base to make it 9-4.

The Chippewas scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and added two more in the bottom of the seventh to push their lead to 12-4 before a four-run bottom of the eighth inning. The Broncos scored the final run of the game as Nick Vogelmeier reached on an error and came all the way around to score on three wild pitches.

WMU saw three players finish with multiple hit games, as Goodwin went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, Forestell went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Vogelmeier went 2-for-5. Miller went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs.

The Broncos will battle Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 26, with the winner moving on to face Central Michigan on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and the loser being eliminated.
