Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – An early third-period goal by Hugh McGing helped the sixth-ranked Western Michigan hockey team tie Colorado College, 3-3, at Broadmoor World Arena on Friday night.
Alex Beradinelli scored a goal with 0.3 seconds left in the three-on-three overtime period to earn the extra point for the Tigers.
In addition to McGing, Sheldon Dries and Griffen Molinio both tallied goals on the night. Ben Blacker made 37 saves on the night. Colt Conrad had two assists on the night as well.
Colorado College took an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal scored during a 5-on-3 advantage at 9:03 in the first period. Matt Hansen was open at the top of the slot and fired it past Blacker for his fifth goal of the season.
Dries scored with 1:39 left in the period to tie the game up 1-1 on his 12th of the season. Corey Schueneman had the puck on the right wall and found the senior captain wide open at the far post for the tap-in goal.
Molino's 12th of the season gave WMU its only lead at 2:04 in the second period. The Broncos had a power play and Conrad dished it off to Molino. He knifed his way through the slot and deked CC goalie Alex Leclerc for a back-hand goal.
The Tigers scored two goals in the final three minutes of the second period to take a 3-2 lead. At 17:09 Trevor Gooch was wide open at the right side of the left circle for the one-timer for his second goal of the season. At 18:47 Sam Rothstein took advantage of a WMU turnover behind the net for his seventh goal of the season.
WMU's penalty kill went 5-for-6 on the night with Blacker making 15 of this saves down a man.
The two teams face off for the final time of the regular season on Saturday night at 8:07 p.m.
