Broncos Rally Past Toledo in Overtime, 61-56

TOLEDO, Ohio- Western Michigan extended its winning streak to five games with a 61-56 overtime win at Toledo Tuesday. The Broncos trailed 31-23 at halftime and by as many as 15 in the contest.

Junior Thomas Wilder scored 30 of his team's 61 points, including seven in a row in the second half that cut a 10-point deficit down to three, 44-41, with 9:06 left in the second half. From there, the Bronco defense tightened up and allowed just 12 points though the end of regulation and overtime. The Broncos (12-15, 8-7 MAC) have now won six of their last seven.

Sophomore Bryce Moore knocked down the game-winning shot in overtime, a 3-pointer from the wing with 29 seconds on the clock for his only points of the game. Senior Tucker Haymond added two free throws with 6.9 seconds left to seal the victory. Haymond struggled offensively, going just 1-for-10 from the floor, but also converted the game-tying free throws for Western Michigan at the end of regulation.

Toledo (14-14, 7-8 MAC) scored first in OT on a jumper by Jaelen Sanford but Haymond responded with a 3-pointer. Wilder scored back-to-back buckets to book end a layup by Toledo's Steve Taylor to put WMU up three. UT's Nate Navigato hit a 3-pointer to knot the score at 56-56 with 45 seconds remaining but then Moore, who had been 0-for-6 shooting, hit his lone three off a kick-out from Wilder.

Wilder also had seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. Wilder's performance was his second 30-point game in the last three contests. A week ago he dropped 38 against Bowling Green, 31 of those coming in the second half.

Junior Drake LaMont turned in a double-double for the Broncos with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Both Western Michigan and Toledo shot around a 34-percent clip for the game. Toledo out-rebounded WMU 54-39. Each team made 11 free throws.
