COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan hockey's Sheldon Dries has been named Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in WMU's split at Omaha over the weekend.
The senior captain helped move the eight-ranked Broncos into sole possession of third place in the NCHC after producing six points in the two games against the Mavericks. Dries tied a career-high with four points in Friday's 7-6 win at Omaha. He netted a short-handed goal early in the first period to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead. He scored his second goal minutes later on a power play to put WMU up 3-1. In the third period he set up the game-tying short-handed goal by Griffen Molino with 5:48 left in the third period. He then set up Molino once again by getting a shot on net for Molino to punch in the rebound for the game-winning goal. Dries finished the night tying as season-high at +3 and had five total shots on goal.
On Saturday he tallied two assists to complete the six-point weekend. He also had four shots on goal and finished +1. The weekend pushed Dries up to tie for third on the team in scoring with 21 points (10-11). He now also has 14 points in NCHC contests, second-best on the team.
