Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Hockey Blanked by No. 12 Minnesota-Duluth, 3-0

DULUTH, Minn. – The 15th-ranked Western Michigan hockey team suffered its first shutout of the season, falling 3-0 at No. 12 Minnesota-Duluth on Friday night.

Avery Peterson scored two goal for the Bulldogs, while Hunter Shepherd made 22 saves. WMU goalie Ben Blacker made 35 saves, while the Broncos (5-4-1, 2-1-0-0 NCHC) hit the pipe three times on the night. Sophomore Dawson DiPietro led Western Michigan with six shots on goal.

Peter Krieger gave UMD a 1-0 lead at 11:09 in the first period. Krieger took a feed from Kobe Roth and snuck it by Blacker for his first of the season.

WMU managed eight chances on net in the second period and went into the third trailing, 1-0.

Peterson netted his first of two goals just 47 seconds into the third period to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. He then netted a power-play goal in transition at 10:25 to seal the Broncos' fate.

WMU's power play finished 0-for-4 on the night, while the penalty kill went 5-for-6.

The two teams face off again on Saturday at 8:07 p.m. The game can be seen live on NCHC.tv and heard live on the Bronco Radio Network.
