KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team completed its sweep of Colorado College after a 3-0 win at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday night.
The 12th ranked Broncos picked up goals from Sheldon Dries, Griffen Molino and Aaron Hadley, while freshman goalie Ben Blacker made 25 saves to earn his third shutout of the season. WMU outshot CC 31-25 on the night and kept the Tigers scoreless on seven power plays.
Western Michigan took an early 1-0 lead on Sheldon Dries' second goal of the weekend at 9:04 in the first period. While on the power play Matheson Iacopelli went blue line-to-blue line on a pass to Dries and he went in all alone with a back-hander for his seventh goal of the season. Iacopelli notched his seventh assist of the season and Blacker also tallied a helper.
Molino made it 2-0 minutes later at 14:28 with his seventh goal of the season. Corey Schueneman ripped a shot from the blue line that went wide and bounced right to Molino for the rebound goal.
Midway through the second period Hadley put the game out of reach with his second goal of the season. With Colorado College on the power play Luke Bafia cleared the puck down the ice. Freshman forward Lawton Courtnall won a race to the puck and centered it to Hadley in the slot and the senior punched it in for the team's first short-handed goal of the season.
The Broncos put the clamps down in the third period, outshooting the Tigers 13-8 to finish off the shutout.
