Broncos Blank Grizzlies, 1-0

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team earned its second road win of the season after a 1-0 victory at Oakland on Friday evening.

Junior center back Maria Jaramillo netted the game's lone goal, while the Broncos (3-1-0) held Oakland to just three total shots. Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Heber needed to make just one save on the night to earn her third shutout of the season.

"I am very happy with how the team performed tonight," said head coach Lauren Sinacola. "Oakland was very organized defensively and made it difficult on us to break them down in the final third. We were persistent and never allowed a missed opportunity to slow down our momentum and it paid off in the end."

The Broncos didn't allow a single shot in the first half and managed three chances on goal from Megan Ross, Kendall Juhnke and Tiffany Buckler.

WMU only landed one more shot on goal but had 10 total shots in the second half, but the one on goal went into the back of the net in the 73rd minute. Junior forward Emma Kahn earned a free kick outside the 18-yard box and Jaramillo stepped up to take it. The Colombian national's free kick made it over the wall and into the right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Western Michigan was able to lock down the Grizzlies for the remaining portion of the game. WMU outshot OU 16-3 overall and held a 7-1 lead in shots on goal. The team also earned six corner kicks, while holding Oakland to 0.

The Broncos return back to Kalamazoo to host Western Illinois on Saturday at 12 p.m.
