KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Senior Sheldon Dries has been named the captain of the Western Michigan hockey team for the third straight season and will be assisted by fellow senior Aaron Hadley, junior Scott Moldenhauer and sophomore Griffen Molino for the 2016-17 season.
Dries now finds himself a part of Bronco Hockey history, becoming just the second player all-time to wear the "C" for three seasons. He joins alum Dana Lattery in sharing that honor. Lattery captained the Western Michigan for three seasons from 2001-04. The Macomb, Mich., native had been a key part of both the WMU offense and defense over his career, totaling 47 points on 25 goals and 22 assists in just the past two seasons.
For Hadley and Moldenhauer it is their second seasons serving as assistant captains. Molino, Western Michigan's leading scorer from last season, wears the "A" for the first time as a Bronco.
WMU opens up the 2016-17 season hosting the University of Toronto on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
