BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Junior midfielder
Kendall Juhnke tallied twice in the second half as the Western Michigan women's soccer team earned its first road win of the season at Indiana on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half the Broncos (2-0-0) broke through on Juhnke's first career goal in the 56th minute. After WMU won a corner kick junior center back
Maria Jaramillo curled the ball into the middle of the box and Juhnke volleyed it into the net to give Western Michigan a 1-0 lead.
The Broncos kept the pressure up and Juhnke scored her second goal from distance in the 75th minute.
Liz Abro fed her the ball at the top of the box and the White Lake, Mich., native put it into the top-right corner of the net for her first career two-goal game.
Overall Western Michigan dominated play, outshooting the Hoosiers 16-9 and holding an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.
"We couldn't be happier with the team's performance today," said head coach
Lauren Sinacola. "Our defense, including Steph (Heber), was steady. The midfielders moved the ball well and our attacking players made it difficult on Indiana's back line. I was very happy with our energy and ability to hold strong for 90 minutes against a very competitive Indiana team."
Junior goalkeeper
Stephanie Heber was called on to make just two saves on the afternoon and earned her first shutout of the season. Juhnke led the Broncos with six shots, while
Mackenzie Barber,
Alyssa Burke and
Emma Kahn each had two.
The Broncos are back in action and once again on the road when they travel to No. 13 Notre Dame on Sunday at 5 p.m. The game can be seen online on ESPN3.com as part of ACC Network Extra.
