KALAMAZOO – Western Michigan senior quarterback Zach Terrell has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy Award Watch List. The Wuerffel Award is given to the top player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Terrell has achieved notoriety this summer, being ranked as the No. 12 most efficient QB nationally according to NFL.com. He ranked seventh in the FBS last season in quarterback efficiency and was 10th in accuracy, completing 67.0 percent of his passes (262-of-391). He finished the year with a career-high 3,526 passing yards including 297 yards and two touchdowns in the team's first bowl win over Middle Tennessee State.
Terrell enters 2016 as the fifth ranked QB among active players in completion percentage with a mark of 63.9 percent. He is also ranked eighth among active players in career efficiency with a mark of 150.25. Last season he showed the ability to put up big numbers against elite competition as he threw for a season-high 365 yards and two TDs against No. 4 Michigan State in Waldo Stadium.
Off the field, Terrell is currently finishing his MBA after completing his undergraduate degree in December, 2015. He is involved with a number of community service organizations such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Tree of Life Bronco Buddies and the Special Olympics to name a few. During spring break the last two years, he has taken a group of Western Michigan student-athletes to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip.
