Box Score 2 KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader Saturday to Toledo, 7-4 and 2-1.
The Rockets (13-31, 6-11 MAC) took all three games of this weekend's Mid-American Conference series, extending their winning streak to five games.
The Broncos' record slipped to 18-23 overall and 9-7 in the MAC. Western Michigan will look to get back on track next weekend, traveling the Ball State for a three-game series against the Cardinals.
Western Michigan erased an early Toledo lead in game one, rallying for four runs in the fourth to tie the score at 4-4. The Rockets were able to push a run across in each of the final three innings however, going on to a 7-4 victory.
Caity Pixley and
Aspen Williams had back-to-back RBI singles and
Sabrina Gamboa had a sac fly in the fourth.
Brooke Wyman also scored on a wild pitch.
Western Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the first in game two but then was held scoreless the rest of the game.
Melissa Palmer hit a one-out single up the middle and scored on a double to left center by Gamboa. Toledo tied the game in the top of the third and pulled ahead with a run in the fourth.
Freshman
Jordan Kurth (4-7) took the loss in the pitcher's circle in game one and senior
Allyson Kus (13-12) was saddled with the loss in game two.
Saturday was WMU's annual StrikeOut Cancer Day, as the Broncos partnered with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer. Western Michigan auctioned off its game-worn jerseys and the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. WMU baseball player
