Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla.- Western Michigan softball (9-12) dropped their final game of the USF Under Armour Invitational Series this morning to Iona (3-5) 1-0. The Broncos went 7-7 in Florida and will be off for a week.
The Broncos recorded six hits in the game and left seven runners on base. Allyson Kus (5-6) struck out six pitching a complete game. Kus held Iona to only three hits over six innings pitched.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, with two outs Iona's Kristen Turner hit a solo home run to put the Gaels up 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth sophomore Gabby Schefka hit a line drive to right field. Erin Barg came in to pinch run for Schefka, Palmer singled to right field. With Barg on third Palmer stole second but the Broncos were unable to get a run in the inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Broncos once again were able to get runners on second and third but unable to pick up a run. With two outs Ivy Schaaf singled to right field and Sabrina Gamboa doubled to center, but the Broncos were unable to score.
Western Michigan returns to the field in nine days when it faces Michigan in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, March 22 at 4 p.m.
