Box Score 2 KENNESAW, Ga.- The Western Michigan softball team (3-5) rolled to a pair of wins Saturday, defeating UT-Martin, 8-3, and Alabama A&M, 8-0, at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey Memorial Tournament, hosted by Kennesaw State.
Junior left fielder Ivy Schaaf went 5-for-7 at the plate with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs over the two games. Senior Sabrina Gamboa and junior Abby Stoner both belted a home run while freshman Jordan Kurth (1-2) and senior pitcher Allyson Kus (2-2) each earned a win.
The Broncos conclude play in Georgia tomorrow with a 10 a.m.contest against UT-Martin.
GAME ONE: WMU 8, UT-MARTIN 3
Western Michigan totaled 10 hits and scored in each of the first three innings en route to an 8-3 victory over UT-Martin Saturday morning.
Schaaf and freshman first baseman Brooke Wyman each collected three hits and an RBI. Wyman drove in a run with her first career double in the first inning.
The Broncos led 5-1 after three innings of play. Junior Erin Binkowski also doubled in the first and Gamboa hit her first home run of the season in the third, a solo blast to center field. It was the 16th career home run for Gamboa, moving her into a tie for third all-time at Western Michigan with current WMU assistant coach Tara Buchanan.
Kurth picked up her first career victory in the pitcher's circle, scattering three runs and six hits while striking out four over six innings. Sophomore Anissa Sanchez threw one inning of hitless relief.
GAME TWO: WMU 8, ALABAMA A&M 0
The Broncos jumped on Alabama A&M with four runs in the second and added a fifth run in the fourth. Stoner capped the day with a three-run home run in the sixth, her second long ball of the year.
Junior third baseman Kelsea Cichocki batted 4-for-4 and drove in two runs. She had an RBI single in the second and an RBI double in the fourth.
The Broncos strung together five hits with two outs in the fourth. Schaaf smacked a two-run double and Binkowski also had an RBI double.

Kus worked five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three. Sanchez hurled another inning of hitless relief to preserve the clean sheet for the Broncos.
