DETROIT, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's basketball team won its sixth straight game Saturday afternoon as the Broncos went on the road and defeated Detroit 75-65 at Calihan Hall. The six-game winning streak is WMU's first since the 2007-08 season. The Broncos have also won four straight away from Kalamazoo.

The game went back-and-forth in the first quarter, with the Broncos holding a 16-13 lead after one. WMU extended the lead to 35-30 at the half, as the Broncos held a 12-3 advantage in second chance points going into the break. The Titans opened the second half on a 7-0 run to regain the lead, but the Broncos followed with a 12-2 run of their own to go up double-digits. Alexis Parks hit a 3-pointer after a pump fake to put WMU up 56-46 heading into the fourth. Detroit kept it close, cutting the deficit to within four points midway through the fourth, but WMU held on as
Meredith Shipman killed any momentum the Titans had connecting on three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Shipman recorded her first career double-double, with season-highs in points (23) and rebounds (11). She also added four assists, three steals and a block while playing all 40 minutes.
Breanna Mobley finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th career double-double and fourth this season.
Marley Hill added 12 points and five rebounds while
Deja Wimby finished with eight points, three assists and three steals.
The Broncos outrebounded the Titans 46-31 and had a 21-7 advantage in second chance points. WMU also had 16 offensive rebounds to the Titans seven.
The Broncos will take the week off and host Bradley on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. as the team looks for its first seven-game winning streak since the 2003-04 season.
