WMU-Michigan State Post Game Quotes

Western Michigan Head Coach P.J. Fleck
I just want to thank everyone in the community. That was an electric special night That's college football right there and I was proud it was right here in Kalamazoo. That atmosphere fueled our players, I haven't seen much like that ever in the MAC, ever. And I've played in some incredibilly big MAC games, I'm very proud of our community and I'm very proud to say I live in Kalamazoo and I'm the head football coach at Western Michigan.

I thought what we did in the first half with the opening kickoff was big, Darius is a phenominal young man and I though coach Wengert did an absolute fabulous job

Whether you wanna keep your oar in the water and keep rowing or not, its just deflates it just a little…the Mich State pounded.

Defensively we knew exactly who they were, and they were exactly who we thought they were, that's the famous quote and it was true. We were one guy out of position or we were one guy taken out of position Then it became a major problem,

We wanna give them credit, they are big and strong and fast, our whole theory behind

I thought our players executed for the most part but I think the problem was it took a whole half for them to settle down. Once you get in at halftime and you make some adjustments, I thought our coaching staff is phenomenal at that, especially Coach Pinkham. But you are never going to take away their dominance. They are a dominating offensive line. I thought our kids hung in there but we didn't make enough plays and they did

Coach talks about rowing the boat and part of that is never quitting. I'm really proud of the guys, offense, defense, special teams for not giving up. We didn't get the outcome that we wanted and there's no silver linings, there's no moral victories and we played a heck of a Michigan State team and they deserve all the credit.

Our inability to move the ball on offense and that falls on me.

I think we learned a lot about our team, I think you can see out there that we have to ability to play with and compete versus the number five team in the country and I think it took us too long to figure that out. I'd say in that first half we started to figure out that we can play with these guys, but it was too late. That's too good of a football team to give a whole half.

You gotta go back on the drawing board and figure out how I can get better. And see how this offense and defense and team can get better. That first half we didn't execute nearly as good as we should have then in the second half they kind of pulled away and there could have been a lot of doubters and people could've left and said.

Wester Michigan sopohomore defensive back/kick returner Darius Phillips
Our Special teams coach, Coach Wingard. He's and elite coordinator and we have elite players on the unit and they put me in the best position to do what I did

Coach Pinkham is an excellent defensive coordinator and he prepared me a lot to play defense. Coach says preparation equals confidence and we prepared a lot so I was really confident out there.

MSU Head Football Coach Mark Dantonio
I want to congratulate Western, I thought they played really well and I thought their quarterback played extremely well. We sacked him seven times and he still stuck in there.

They made some plays and they have some good players. You can see why they were effective last year and they didn't quit. They are a well-coached football team like I said coming into the game, they had a plan.

(Difference between WMU 2013 and 2015 teams)
That Western Michigan team that played us in 2015 never quit either. They drove down at the end of the game and scored. You have to congratulate them for trying to win, everyone wants to win but nothing positive comes with a loss. But at the same time they come to play and they play hard. All those guys can play. I'm very impressed with their wideouts, their quarterback, their offensive line hung in there.

We stopped the run and sacked the quarterback but we gave up too many third down conversions.
