BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Western Michigan softball team dropped its regular season finale at Buffalo Sunday, 5-0, and will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament, May 6-9, in Akron, Ohio.
The Broncos face No. 4 seed Central Michigan in tournament's opening game Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Firestone Stadium.
WMU finishes the regular season with a 21-24 overall, 11-9 MAC record and will make its first tournament appearance since 2012. The Broncos won the MAC Tournament crown in 2011.
Western Michigan only managed two hits in Sunday's loss to the Bulls, as UB senior pitcher Hayley Barrow threw a complete game and struck out six. Bronco senior center fielder Jenny Rohn singled to right field in the fourth and junior second baseman Melissa Palmer poked a ball through the right side in the seventh.
Barrow was a dual threat for Buffalo, going 2-for-3 at the plate and jump-starting the offense with a two-run home run in the fifth to give her team a 2-0 lead. UB added three more runs in the sixth off of four hits, two for extra bases.
Sophomore pitcher Erin Binkowski (6-10) took the loss for Western Michigan, throwing five innings.
