YPSILANTI, Mich.- Western Michigan baseball was unable to hang onto an early lead Saturday, falling on the road at Eastern Michigan, 7-6.
The Broncos took a 3-0 lead in the first and held a 6-1 advantage after five and a half innings but was held without a run in their final three at bats. Eastern Michigan's offense built momentum in the bottom of the sixth, plating four runs to cut the deficit to 6-5. The Eagles scored two more in the eighth to complete the comeback.
Senior right fielder
Jared Kujawa batted 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored, walk and a stolen base. Kujawa tied the school record with his 15th career triple in the fifth. Ken Scarpace set the school record for career triples playing between the 1978 and 1980 seasons.

Freshman left fielder
Tanner Allison belted a ball out over the fence in right center for his first career home run in the fourth and Kujawa scored after hitting his triple in the fifth as WMU extended its lead to 5-0.
Both teams tallied a run in the sixth. Nelson hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a sac bunt and crossed the plate on a two-out single by sophomore Nick Voegelmeier.
Western Michigan starting right-handed pitcher
Chad Mayle exited the game after giving up a pair of one-out walks in the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles hit back-to-back singles off of senior reliever
Will Nimke. A two-out error by the Broncos proved costly, as the Eagles extended the inning and David Lett delivered a two-run single. Western Michigan would use a total of five pitchers out of its bullpen in the game.
Four of the first five Eastern Michigan batters in the eighth recorded a hit as the Eagles produced two runs and took their first lead of the afternoon. Sam Delaplane threw a scoreless ninth for EMU to complete the comeback and earn the save. Reliever Matthew Beaton picked up the victory recording the final two outs in the eighth.
Freshman
Jacob Piechota (1-1) took the loss for Western Michigan, entering the game in with one on and no outs in the seventh. He threw 1.1 innings.
WMU had nine hits in the contest while Eastern Michigan totaled 13. The Broncos' record slipped to 11-14 overall and 4-4 in the Mid-American Conference. EMU upped its record to 11-18, 3-5 in the MAC.
The two teams will settle the three-game series tomorrow, playing a rubber match at 1 p.m. The Broncos took game one Friday, 2-1.
