Postgame Quotes from Head Coach P.J. Fleck
On the stop on 4th-and-1 in the second quarter that set up WMU's first touchdown of the game:
I think there were some big plays and that was definitely one of them. The defense really responded. We challenged them all week. It was not a very pretty time to be a defensive player this past week and they responded exactly the way Coach Pinkham and I want them to respond. He did a great job of pushing them all week. That stop on fourth down was huge for us.
I can't say it enough. Our defense played spectacular today. They bent but didn't break.
On the play of the Bobcats:
That was tough sledding for us out there. Thank God our defense played so well in the first half because that team is good. Their defense is really good. Don't let the 49 points fool you, that first half was a battle. I give credit to our offensive line and our coaches for what they were able to do. They stuck with the plan but were able to make adjustments based on their gameplan and they went out there and made plays. They were physical. We just had to do a few things here and there to take advantage of some things and we did a great job of it. Give them all the credit in the world for what they did in the first half. That's a tough football team, a Frank Solich football team.
On the Broncos' dominant rushing statistics:
430 yards rushing. That's our football team right there. When you can do that it opens so much up. We were great at converting third downs today, going 7 of 11. We got rolling in the second half when we got the running game going. Bellamy had nine carries for 149 yards and nearly had three backs over 100 yards. We're a selfless team, and the offensive line just dominated the game. It took them a quarter and a half to get going, but they couldn't be stopped after that.
On the offensive balance, with six different players scoring touchdowns:
I never want anyone to take winning for granted around here. It's very difficult. One thing this team has realized is that they've been in some deep places and crawled out. They've turned around the culture of this place and to have the confidence to have that kind of performance against the top team in the MAC East right now and the best defense in the MAC, but realize it doesn't promise us anything. We're 1-0 in the Ohio season now but now we've got Miami next week. They've got a lot of weapons and they're young, but they're well coached. We expect them to be prepared.
