Softball Falls to No. 5 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Western Michigan softball played its third nationally ranked team this season and first to rank in the top 5 in the country as the Broncos fell to No. 5 Michigan, 8-0, in five innings on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.

WMU had its first base runner of the night three at bats into the game when Loren Nagy drew a full count walk in the top of the first but was not able to capitalize.  In fact it would be the Broncos only base runner until the top of the fifth when Jenny Rohn attacked a rise ball and registered her team's only hit against the nation's fifth best team.

The hit not only broke up Michigan's bid for its second no-hitter of the season, it also meant that the Broncos have still never been no-hit by the Wolverines in 55 meetings.  The last time WMU was no hit was on April 2, 2011 at home against Eastern Michigan.  The last non-conference opponent to no-hit the Broncos was Oregon State on Feb. 11, 2011.

Michigan scored all of its eight runs over the first three innings, scoring three in each of the first and second frames and two more in the third.  Sierra Lawrence was one of three Wolverines with two RBIs on the night, finishing with a double and single.

This was the first game of the 2014 season played in the Broncos home state, but Western Michigan will finally play an actual home game this weekend when Miami and Ball State come to Fran Ebert Field on April 11 (Miami) and April 12-13 (Ball State).
