Softball Travels to No. 5 Michigan to Open Week

After WMU plays its third nationally ranked opponent of 2014 it will play its first home series of the season when the Broncos welcome Miami and Ball State to Fran Ebert Field this weekend.

WMU SOFTBALL NEWS & NOTES
Melissa Palmer continued her hot-hitting week, going 1-for-3 on Sunday against NIU and leading the team over three games last week hitting .400 (4-for-10) with a run scored and the first home run of her Bronco career in a 5-0 win over Valparaiso

• Palmer currently has the team's longest hit streak of the season with eight and has reached safely in 12-straight games, also best on the team this year

Megan Stamm has hit not one, but two grand slams this season and matched her career high for RBIs in a game (4) twice over the last two weeks

Allyson Kus earned her third shutout of the season, working her 16th complete game of the year when WMU defeated 2013 Horizon League champion Valparaiso 5-0 to start last week, with the sophomore sitting down the final nine Crusaders that came to the plate to secure the victory, her team-leading ninth win of the year

• Western Michigan opened last week with a shutout victory on the road against 2013 Horizon League champion Valparaiso.  but closed out the week suffering a series loss at the hands of NIU

• WMU will face its third nationally ranked opponent of 2014 when it travels to No. 5 Michigan on Tuesday, April 8, before hosting its first home games of the season against Miami (April 11) and Ball State (April 12-13)
