CLEARWATER, Fla. - Western Michigan plated four runs on 10 hits but it wasn't enough as the Broncos fell to Indiana State, 8-4, in the two teams' first meeting since 2001.
Jenny Rohn led the way for WMU at the plate against the Sycamores, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. She hit .400 for the USF Under Armour Showcase, going 6-for-15 with a pair of RBIs. Kelsea Cichocki paced the Broncos during the tournament hitting .533 (8-for-15) at the plate over the five games. She hit ,500 for the week, including going 2-for-4 at the plate against Indiana State. Cichocki led WMU with two doubles this week with two RBIs.
Melissa Palmer, Sabrina Gamboa and Ivy Schaaf also collected hits for the Broncos agianst Indiana State, which scored a pair of runs in the first and third to take a 4-1 lead into the fourth inning. The Broncos cut the deficit to a run with two tallies in the top of the fourth.
The Sycamores added another run in the fourth and even though WMU cut the lead back to one run in the fifth, ISU took control with three runs in the last of the sixth.
Western Michigan closes out its early season tournament schedule with the Fighthing Illini Invitational on March 14-16.
