Broncos Stop "Falcon Fast" in 26-14 Win

Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Jarvion Franklin rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown and the Western Michigan defense shut down the Mid-American Conference's top rated offense in WMU's 26-14 win over Bowling Green on the road at Doyt Perry Stadium on Saturday.

The Broncos (4-3, 2-1 MAC) held the Falcon scoreless in the second half and had a time of possession advantage of 21:06-8:54 in the final two quarters. BGSU held the ball for just 1:52 in the final quarter. WMU's defense forced two turnovers on the day and gave up just 274 yards. Freshman Robert Spillane led the defense with 10 tackles, Grant DePalma finished with nine and Justin Currie had seven to go along with his first interception of the season. 

Zach Terrell finished the day going 15-for-24 for 166 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 39 yards on the day. Franklin set a new career-high 37 carries on the day as well. Corey Davis had a game-high seven receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown, while Darius Phillips had a game-high 93 yards on three receptions. 

The Falcons won the toss and elected to receive. After a touchback it took them 3:56 to drive 75 yards for a touchdown and take a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Travis Greene ran for 28 yards on the drive before Andrew Rush punched it in from two yards out.

The Broncos responded with a long scoring drive, going 60 yards in 7:28 for an Andrew Haldeman 25-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 7-3. Terrell was a perfect 5-for-5 on the drive for 35 yards getting WMU down to the Bowling Green eight. 

After forcing a three-and-out the Brown & Gold drove down the field again, this time Terrell connected from four yards out with Davis to take the lead 10-7. Franklin carried the ball five times on the drive and Terrell made 4-of-5 completions. 

Currie's interception set up another Haldeman field goal, this time from 35-yards out and into the wind to push the lead to 13-7. The Falcons responded with a 17-play 84-yard drive that ate up the rest of the first half. Rush ran it in from the one-yard line to retake the lead 14-13.

In the second half it was all Western Michigan. On the opening drive of the third quarter Terrell found Phillips on a quick slant route and the speedy wide receiver did the rest of the work, taking it 63 yards to the house to give WMU a 19-14 lead. 

Franklin ran it in from 22 yards out with 7:36 left in the fourth quarter to push the score to 26-14. WMU's freshman sensation carried the ball six times on the 75-yard drive. 

Western Michigan welcomes Ohio next Saturday for its annual Homecoming game at 2 p.m. The game will be carried live by ESPN3 and on the Bronco Radio Network.
