Head Coach Shane Clipfell
On the game overall….
“We're scoring points and that makes all the difference in the world. There's more excitement when that's happening. We're just finding a way to get the ball to the basket a little more regularly. That allows you to play defense harder. We're going to go through lows like we did in that first half there but I we didn't stay in a long drought in this game. Marquisha Harris having 28 points in the second half was huge for us and this was the game of her life so far. I've seen her play that way before but just the way she scored and the way she played was nice to see.”
On Harris' performance…
“Harris is a finesse player and can elevate over people. She is a great athlete. She is doing that over six foot players and that's not easy to do. She was really focused and got to the foul line a ton. That's the best complete game I've seen her play here.”
On Morton's performance…
“We'll say Marquisha was the difference maker in the second half, but for her to do that Alex Morton was that in the first half. That's all we talked about in halftime was our need to transition and get the ball down the court quicker. We were starting our offense 35 feet from the basket. Once she started getting it deeper and getting us better offensive spacing things started clicking.”
On confidence this season…
“We're not totally there yet, but we're getting there. Our system is not completely in tack yet, but when you talk about being 2-0 it's more important to me that we finally played well here at home. It's been a long time since we've played really well here in our own gym. We still didn't shoot it as well as we are capable of and consistently. We just need to balance out our play.”
Junior Forward Marquisha Harris
On her performance…
“I felt good right off the start in the second half. I would definitely say that I am playing a more complete game now than I was at the beginning of the season, not just in rebounds and points but also expand other parts of my game.”
On playing with Miracle Woods…
“It took some time to get back in sync. There were some times where I was just a step off or she was just a step off. In the past few games we have been clicking very well together.”
On being 2-0 in conference play…
“It's awesome. I honestly don't know when the last time our program has done that. It has been awhile. Everyone is feels hyped and excited about it and we are ready for the third game.”
On comfort with Clipfell's system…
“We absolutely feel more comfortable. In the first year it was new, and everything was new. Now we know what to expect. He knows things that he can change and how we can all get better. We know our coaches are going to put us in the best position to win we just have to execute.”
Sophomore Guard Alex Morton
On the game overall…
“We knew they were going to have some gaps in their zone and I felt like in the second half we were able to see those gaps a little more and be able to take advantage of them and deliver the ball to the right place at the right time. There man-to-man defense was hard for us to read at the beginning of the game and it became easier throughout the first half. I feel like we were really able to get in to it in the second half and get in the right offense and pick up the tempo of the game in transition.”
On Coach Clipfell's system…
“We have a year under our belts with him as our coach and we are a little bit more comfortable. We are all able to click a little better because we have been with each other for a year now.”
On confidence this year versus last year…
“The confidence now is definitely higher. We have really come together in the last few games and had each other's backs. We are really more on the same page than we have been.”
On playing time…
“We have a deep bench and if somebody is not having a great game we have somebody that can come in and pick them up. Even with the minutes some people play, we always have someone who can come in if they need to.”
