MUNCIE, Ind. - The Western Michigan softball team looked to be the first team in seven tries to hand Ball State its first loss of the 2013 Mid-American Conference season but the Cardinals proved to be too strong, prevailing, 13-0, in five innings.
Melissa Palmer and Jenny Rohn were the lone Broncos to collect hits in the shortened game as Ball State had six extra base hits, consisting of three doubles and three home runs.
The Cardinals opened the game up with a six-run first inning, scoring four more in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth.
Western Michigan stranded five runners on base and besides the two hits saw only three other batters reach base, one due to a base on balls and two more due to Ball State errors.
WMU and Ball State conclude their season series on Sunday in Muncie, Ind., with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
