WMU SOFTBALL NEWS & NOTES
•Western Michigan went 1-2 in the weather-shortened Fighting Illini Invitational, defeating Loyola-Chicago, 8-6, to claim the consolation title
• Since the Broncos had two games removed from its schedule at the Fighting Illini Invitational, its original home opener against IPFW was canceled, its game at Michigan State (3/20) was postponed to April 10 and its second attempt at a home opener (3/27) against Notre Dame was postponed
• Head coach Kathy Leitke is eight wins from reaching 300 for her WMU career
• Sabrina Gamboa led the Broncos in average (.500) and slugging percentage (.700) at the Fighting Illini Invitational … she extended her team lead in RBIs (22) with two over the weekend, also hitting her sixth and seventh doubles of the year, which also leads the team
• Gamboa's two doubles was tied for the best in the tournament
• Gamboa is 10 RBIs from breaking the freshman record set by Meredith Whitney (31) in 2009
• Colleen Lynch came into the win against Loyola Chicago, marking her first appearance in the circle since March 8, with the Broncos holding a slight lead over the Ramblers
• WMU went 2-0 against NIU in 2012 with the Christina Pigozzi hitting .429 (3-for-7) in the series, Mackenzie Shepeck earned a win, working 5.0 perfect innings with three strikeouts
