KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Toledo clinched a share of the Mid-American
Conference regular season title with its 75-42 win over Western Michigan
Thursday. The Rockets have won 13 straight in conference play,
improving to 13-1 in the MAC and 25-2 overall. WMU fell to 5-9 MAC,
9-18.
Sophomore forward Marquisha Harris had 11 points and six rebounds for Western Michigan. Senior Aurielle Anderson and freshman Miracle Woods each had 10 points and four boards. Junior Corie Buchanan chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.
Andola Dortch paced Toledo's attack with 15 points. Inma Zanogurea
had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Naama Shafir added
13 points and Lecretia Smith had 10.
The Broncos scored the first two baskets in the game, but the Rockets
quickly turned things to their favor, going on a 27-2 run over the next
11 minutes. UT led 44-17 at the half.
Toledo entered the game ranked No. 6 in the mid-major top 25 poll by collegeinsider.com and is receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches national polls.
WMU lost the rebounding battle, 44-27, and shot 30.8 percent from the
floor to Toledo's 50.8 percent. It was Western Michigans' lowest point
total in a conference game this season, and the first game in which the
team didn't make a three-pointer (0-for-9).
The Broncos travel to Ball State (14-13, 11-3 MAC) Sunday for their
final conference road game. WMU concludes the regular season at home
against Northern Illinois Wednesday, March 6.
