Western Michigan softball book ended the 2013 Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic with wins, closing out the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Valparaiso.

The Broncos claimed their 18th win over Valparaiso to extend their lead in the all-time series to 18-4, but it was WMU's first win over Valpo since March 19, 2003.

Mackenzie Shepeck was in the circle for her second start of the tournament, and of her career.  She matched her career best strikeout effort with eight punch outs but earned the win in this outing, giving up just one earned run on six hits in her first career complete game.

WMU SOFTBALL NEWS & NOTES
Western Michigan travels to the state of Florida for the first of two events hosted by the University of South Florida ... this is the third straight season that WMU has appeared in two USF tournaments and the fifth straight year appearing in at least one USF event ... Mackenzie Shepeck earned the first MAC West Pitcher of the Week award for her performance in the circle a week ago, recording a career high eight strikeouts in back to back starts ... Sabrina Gamboa, who had three runs scored and four RBIs, earned a spot on the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic All-Tournament Team ... entering the week six of WMU's 2013 opponents were ranked or receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll ...
