Sophomore Forward Josh Pitt
On his game winning goal…
“Hafner passed it up to Oesterle and he dropped it back to me. I beat the first guy and then the puck started bouncing to so I chipped it by the next two and then I shot and it went high glove. It felt pretty good. It would have felt as good as any goal, but I wanted to win pretty badly.”
On what the win means…
“It was a big win for us to beat a team like Michigan in a game like this. I think everybody is as fired up as I am right now.”
On pushing through the tie…
“We were just trying to stay as positive as possible. We had played a great game up to that point and we just had to keep going and we knew one was going to get in for us.”
On playing outdoors…
“That game was the most fun I've had all year. I wish we could play all of our games outdoors. It was a great atmosphere and a great experience.”
On the ice condition…
“I don't think the ice was that bad at all. There were a couple of soft spots in a few areas but other than that it just like playing on our ice at home.”
Head Coach Andy Murray
On the atmosphere…
“It was thrilling. The players were excited to play and it was nice hearing the Bronco fans out there. Michigan Tech played really hard today and were deserving winners so they will be a tough opponent tomorrow.”
On the ice condition…
“It was the same for both teams and it didn't seem to be a real issue. I think it was better for the second game than it was for the first game.”
On pushing through the tie…
“I liked our game tonight. I think we were playing hard. We made a few light decisions with the puck that got us in trouble but we got back to playing and making strong decisions. You look at the short-handed goal they got and we had three or four chances that we just didn't finish and then they got their short-handed goal. I liked our competitive level. We just talked about looking at the clock and making sure you have lots of juice and wanting to get off to a good start for the second half against Michigan, the number three team in the country.”
On the tone of the game…
“I thought it was a game for heavy players, and when we played light we got ourselves in trouble. We are going to have to play a real heavy game against a tough Michigan Tech team tomorrow.”
On his game attire…
“I always coach in a suit. I don't know any different. I told all the trainers on the bench to turn their cell phones off because I knew my wife would be calling and telling me to get a parka on. It actually felt pretty warm out there. I looked over at my two assistant coaches who are pretty young guys and they were all bundled up. I've coached in a lot colder indoor rinks in Canada before.”
On playing outdoors…
“I think it was pretty neat. I've never been to Comerica Park. I was a big Tigers fan growing up in Manitoba and I used to listen to the games on the radio. But to play here and to play against Michigan and having a chance to coach against Red Berenson is special to me. It's just special.”
