WMU vs NIU Game Notes

Pre-game

  • WMU holds a 23-15-0 edge all-time against Northern Illinois but have not beaten the huskies since 2008.
  • Corey Davis needs just 87 yards to break 1,000.
  • WMU head coach P.J. Fleck and defensive line coach Vinson Reynolds are coaching against their alma mater. Former WMU wide receiver's coach Thad Ward also is now at NIU in the same position.

First Quarter

  • Ronald Zamort broke up his 17th pass of the year and is now just three away from tying the WMU record.
  • Demetrius Pettway has four tackles in the first period, just four shy of his season high.
  • Western Michigan held NIU to seven points in the first quarter, the second lowest point total recorded by the Huskies this season.

Second Quarter

  • Clark Mussman's 27-yard reception was the longest of his career. His previous career-high was 23 against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 13, 2010.
  • Dareyon Chance's touchdown run was his third of the season.
  • J. Schroeder's 55-yard punt was his eighth punt of 50-plus yards this season.
  • WMU offensive lineman Willie Beavers caught his first career pass after catching a pass by Zach Terrell was deflected.
  • WMU held NIU to just 39 yards passing in the first half.
  • WMU had a field goal blocked for the first time since Nov. 17, 2007 at Iowa.
  • Jordan Lynch is the second individual to rush for 200 yards against the Broncos this season.

Third Quarter

  • WMU recovered an on-side kick to open the second half. The Broncos are two-for-two on on-side kicks this season.
  • Kendrick Roberts with a new career-high in receptions with five.
  • Jordan Lynch's 300 yards rushing is the most by an opponent since NIU's Garrett Wolfe rushed for 277 on Nov. 23, 2005.

Fourth Quarter

  • Jordan Lynch breaks his own FBS rushing record by a quarterback with 321 yards.
  • Brian Fields' kick-off return of 47 yards was the longest of his career. His previous long was 42 yards on Oct. 30, 2010 against NIU.
  • Antoin Scriven recorded his 13th career one-yard touchdown run.
  • Corey Davis ties WMU freshman record for receptions with 67.
