WMU at ND Hockey Quotes 10/11/13

Head Coach Andy Murray

On takeaways from tonight:

“First it's a one to nothing hockey game going in to the third, and we are playing on the road. When we are playing a very good hockey team we need to give ourselves a chance and we took too many unnecessary penalties. Also, some of the guys we needed to didn't play at the level we needed them to and it's my job to get them going.”

On puck possession:

“We knew we had to hang on to the puck, and make good decisions with it. They had the puck more than we did tonight. They are a team with a talent level, and we needed to possess a little more. We made some poor decisions with the puck. The good thing about this is that we play at 7:05 tomorrow night at Lawson and we will be ready for the challenge.”

On Frank Slubowski's performance:

“I thought Frank made some great saves. A couple of the goals were power play, and they were only able to get one even strength goal against us. He was solid. On some of those goals the pucks just took a bounce and found the back of the net.”

On offensive performance:

“I think a very weak part of our game was taking responsibility and shooting the puck. It used to be when you played kids sports, if you didn't pass it they called you selfish; well I call it selfish when you  have a chance to shoot it and you don't shoot it because you're giving your responsibility to somebody else. You've got to take responsibility.”

On overall performance:

“They are probably one of the best skating teams in the league and we could skate with them. I liked our energy. To me some of our guys who have been here before need to possess the puck more. We will put a lineup together for tomorrow night and we will be ready to go.”

Junior Forward Will Kessel

On offensive performance:

“I think we brought our effort. I think part of it is that we had a lot of freshmen in the lineup who are just getting used to the system and flow. They had a team full of seniors and guys who have played together for awhile. We will be ready to go tomorrow. We didn't give up in the game.”

On a shutout loss:

“They had two power play goals and an empty netter. It wasn't a bad loss for us. We have to get more pucks to the net and generate more opportunities. We'll be ready to go tomorrow.”
