KALAMAZOO, Mich. - WMU football is officially announcing the hiring of Luke Getsy (wide receivers), Justin (J.B.) Gibboney (special teams coordinator), Brian Callahan (tight ends) and Charles Huff (running backs) to round out the position coaches on P.J. Fleck's first coaching staff.
This quartet of coaches brings experience and youth to the Bronco football program as well as first-hand knowledge of the Mid-American Conference. Below is what Coach Fleck has to say about each of the new coaching staff members as well as a link to their official bios.
Gibboney comes to WMU after spending four seasons as the special teams coordinator at Purdue where he coaches the Boilermakers to the best kickoff return average in the nation in 2011. - J.B. Gibboney Bio
"J.B.
is one of the young rising stars in this profession. He came highly recommended by one of my
former colleagues Bob Ligashesky, the special teams coordinator at Tampa
Bay. He has four years of coordinating
experience, coming from Purdue where his special teams unit led the country in kickoff
return average in 2011. He is a great
teach and recruiter in the Midwest. We
are very happy to have him, and his wife Ryan, join our Bronco family," commented Fleck.
Getsy brought a MAC title to Akron in 2005 and put his name next to 24 Zip records as a player. He joins the staff after serving as the offensive coordinator at Indiana University of PA. - Luke Getsy Bio
"Luke
played in the Mid-American Conference and has coached in the Mid-American
Conference. He has an extensive
knowledge of the pass and run game as well as experience with both the spread
and West Coast offenses as a player and coach.
Having been a coordinator at such a young age, he is very bright and
another up and coming coaches in this profession. He has a great mind and we are very excited
to have Luke, Tina and their new son John in the Bronco family," said Fleck.
Huff spent the 2012 season in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills but also spent time in the SEC at Vanderbilt under head coach James Franklin. - Charles Huff Bio
"Charles
Huff comes to us from the Buffalo Bills and was recommended to me by Dave
Wannstedt. He is a great recruiter in
the state of Florida and with his NFL background he has an impeccable attention
to detail. He is a part of the James
Franklin coaching tree and Coach Franklin is a great recruiter and one of the
most respected coaches in the country so I was very happy to get a James
Franklin disciple onto our coaching staff.
We are really happy to have Charles on staff," added Fleck.
Callahan comes to the Broncos after serving as the offensive line coach at Eastern Illinois over the past three seasons, including this past year when the Panthers captured the Ohio Valley Conference title. - Brian Callahan Bio

have known Brian Callahan for over eight years.
He is one of the best recruiters of the state of Illinois and Catholic
League recruiters that there is out there.
He has a ton of passion for the run game and he brings the knowledge of
an offensive line coach to our tight ends unit.
We are very happy to have him, his wife Jennifer, and their three kids,
Lauren, Grace and Kevin, in the Bronco family," said Fleck.
Western Michigan football is finalizing the last pieces of the staff including director of football operations and strength and conditioning, as well as a new position, director of internal operations. Those positions should be made official in the coming days.
