Western Michigan went 3-1 over the past Mid-American Conference weekend, sweeping a conference opponent on the road for the second time in 2012. WMU took two from Akron, winning its first extra innings game of the season and then split with Ohio in Athens. The Broncos blanked the Bobcats in the opener, 5-0, before falling in a shutout, 4-0, in the night cap at Ohio.

Meredith Whitney earns MAC West Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season ... Whitney surpassed Ball State's Bernie Coffman (1986-89) for sixth on the MAC career strikeouts list ... Whitney is 20 strikeouts from passing Kent State's Brittney Robinson for fifth on the MAC career list ... over the past weekend, several milestones were reached in WMU softball — the Broncos reached 400 MAC wins; Coach Leitke reached 590 career wins and 150 career MAC wins ... WMU now boasts four of the top seven all-time home run hitters on this years team with Tara Buchanan and Meredith Whitney ranking second (16), Gracie Barstad ranking fifth (11) and Courtney Rousseau ranking eighth (9) ... WMU enters the weekend tied with Ohio for fifth overall in the MAC (8-6) ... the Broncos earned their first extra-inning win of the season with a 5-3 victory in eight innings at Akron on April 20 ... WMU's sweep of Akron marks the second MAC road sweep of the season (Eastern Michigan, April 7-8).
