WMU Softball Heads to Notre Dame to Start Week

WMU Softball looks for back-to-back wins at Notre Dame for the first time since 1999 and opens defense of its Mid-American Conference title this weekend.

WMU Softball Notes

• Western Michigan is 8-2 over its last 10 games after starting the season 1-5.

• WMU's Meredith Whitney became only the third Bronco to reach 50 wins in the circle, going 2-0 during the Broncos' last weekend of competition.

• Whitney is now among the top of the record book in career RBIs, ranking fourth with 73 runs batted in.

• WMU looking for back to back wins over Notre Dame for the first time since 1999.  It was also mark the first consecutive wins at Notre Dame since the 1999 season.


• This will be the third meeting between WMU and Notre Dame in the past year with the Broncos claiming a 3-2 win at Notre Dame (3/29/11) and the Irish claiming a 4-0 in the NCAA Regional (5/21/11).

• WMU's Kathy Leitke has a chance to become only the second WMU coach to reach 100 home wins if the Broncos sweep Ball State and Miami this weekend. 

• WMU last swept a series against Ball State in 2007 and in 2006 against Miami.

• WMU last swept a home series against back-to-back teams the second to last home weekend of the 2011 season against Akron (W, 9-0 - F/5; W, 6-4) and Ohio (W, 6-3; W, 8-3) during the April 15-17 weekend.
