Softball Continues 2012 Season at USF Under Armour Invitational

USF UNDER ARMOUR INVITATIONAL NOTES

• WMU opened the 2012 campaign against three teams that are currently ranked in the Top 25 - No. 5 Arizona State, No. 9 Tennessee and No. 24 New Mexico.

• WMU captured its first win of the year with a 9-0 victory in five innings against Cal-State Northridge.

• 2011 MAC Player of the Year Gracie Barstad returns to the line up after missing the season's opening tournament due to injury.

Diana Patterson tied the program record for home runs in a game with two against No. 9 Tennessee in a 9-6 loss to close out the Kajikawa Classic.

Meredith Whitney became only the second Bronco pitcher to eclipse the 500 strikeout mark after fanning 22 batters in the season-opening tournament.  She now is second on the career list with 517 Ks.

• WMU will play in two tournaments hosted by South Florida over the next two weekends beginning with the Under Armour Invitational. 

• WMU stays in the Tampa, Fla., area for an exhibition game against the Netherlands National Team (March 7) before the USF Showcase Tournament (March 9-11).

• WMU holds a combined 8-2 record against its five opponents this weekend.  The Broncos will face Harvard for the first time in program history.  In fact the Crimson are the first Ivy League opponent for WMU.
