WMU-CMU Post-Game Quotes

WMU Head Coach Bill Cubit:

Opening statement ...

"I'm happy, how about you guys? Our kids, I'll be honest with you, on Monday I've felt about as good as I've felt. I thought the kids were tuned in and focused, we talked about focusing and preparation through the first three days. And don't let emotions get too much out of you because they are a rivalry. We talked about on Thursday amp it up a little. They did everything we asked them to do.

Coach Ryan (Cubit) put a video out this morning which I think really, really showed everyone in that room how much this rivalry really means. We have former players on the video tape. We had plays from way, way back. I'm shocked we even had those things. All we had to do was tell the kids 'Hey, fully understand it, and the last thing we talked about, you've got to perform in the moment. And the kids went out there, and they did.

There was a point where the team didn't feel any pressure, because they were prepared. I thought it was an outstanding performance by our kids, you know we can always get better. Which when you look at it, from a final score, to say I'm ecstatic would be an understatement. I'm not pulling any punches. I'm happy for those kids because what they have done for us is unbelievable."

How sweet was the Powerade shower
Yeah, that's only my second one. That was pretty nice there. I was not expecting it, and I hope to have a few more.

Senior Wide Receiver Jordan White
After 5 straight losses finally get one how does it feel?
"It feels good but I haven't been out beyond the locker room yet, so I don't know the emotion of everybody. It feels good to be with the guys knowing that no one here has ever beaten Central, only some of the coaching staff has, and I have been here five years and hadn't been able to beat them. Not many people get to six years. I think I came back for one reason at least, to beat Central.

Junior QB Alex Carder
It seemed like the first few times you threw it to him he was wide open, was it one of those things where you were saying 'where is everybody?
"We again had a great game plan going into this thing. So it was all based on schemes, not only do we have to perform out there but a lot of it is coaching. I think we owe a lot to our coaches because they really had an excellent game plan and we have been the most prepared we've ever been."

Senior Cornerback Aaron Winchester:
What's it feel like to put forth that kind of goal, and focus throughout the week, and have it come to fruition?
"It feels amazing. It's been a long time coming for the community, been a long time coming for the coaches and it's been a long time coming for this team. I lost to them three times. Jordan's (White) lost to them many times I'm just happy it came through.

CMU Head Coach Dan Enos

On the overall effort:
"We got beat by a better football team today. They played well. I have to give all the credit to Western Michigan, they played well. We didn't tackle very well and they executed plays at a very high level."

On the passing game:
"We had some overthrown passes and nothing was in sync."

On momentum:
"We definitely have to run more. We need to improve the backs and we need to get more pressure on quarterbacks. We just need to play better to enable us to play with better football teams."

On defense:
"We didn't do very well at all on defense and we only forced one or two punts the entire game. We really didn't do anything right defensively. Every time we got a good stop and got points on the board, they walked back down and scored and deflated us."

On Jordan White:
"We helped him out a lot. We didn't play a whole lot of coverage. Their quarterback is very good and we knew that going into the game."

CMU QB Ryan Radcliff

On the overall effort:
"This game turned out just like the second half last week. We've gotta do better on offense. It just came down to they played a better ball game. We just came out and didn't play as good as they did."

"We're very close. We've just got to do better. We've just got to get the momentum back. We've just got to start applying pressure and getting open. We know we can win, we've just got to do better in practice and go out with a better attitude. We just need to open up the passing game a little more to give us more options."

On passing game:
"We were off on a lot of routes, just a few little things that were off. Those little things just can't happen. It's just things all over the place. It's not just guys dropping balls."
